Shellsborough Rockpools
Artist: Glenn Lee Badham.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Year: 2020.
Size: 45 × 45 cm.
Condition: New, in an ebony stained Hardwood box frame.
Signature: Signed at the back of the painting.
Description: On the edge of the vast Woolacombe Bay Shellsborough is a cluster of rockpools and this viewpoint looking down from the elevated position removes all sense of scale. The rockpools that a man can wade in are reduced to mere bumps. The lack of scale reference in the paintings is deliberate so it is not clear what is huge or tiny. The textures of the foliage balances the flat planes of palette knife work at the top of the painting where the thin surf sits as tide recedes. The light sneaking round the headland just illuminates the tops of the rockpools adding to the huge range of textures.
