Le Liu
Le Liu was born and bred in China, currently living in the UK. The human body without a head is a speciality of his painting. Based on Deleuze’s body without organs, philosophy and Buddhism learning, he tries to show that the body has escaped from a state of being connected, standardised, symbolic, and subjective by society, so it is a body that has been dismantled, decomposed, and non-regionalised so that it can be rebuilt in a new way.” It also refers to a body that is alive, restless, free, full of positive desires, and generates appropriate strength. The state of preservation of the essence of freedom, in the way of shaping the human body group image to express the sense of partial lack of contemporary people and the relationship between people and people.

"Before painting this painting I was still reading Deleuze’s philosophy of the organ-free body, like stalk thought, fluidity, identity, and separation. After that, I wanted to paint the same person in different states, different times, and different spaces. Formed together, I found different photos of a model, at different times, but the same scene, then I used PS to combine the two photos a bit and adjusted it a bit. Be like this. I considered the Baroque movement, but it was more of De Kooning's colors and the rich layers of classical paintings. This painting is complex, composed of different times and places of the same body, so I call it Heterogeneous."

“Bodies are always my desire at the bottom of my heart, maybe it just only sexual, maybe it has something else, I use to read lots of books, observe lots of body works, from ancient to modern, from sculpture to oil painting, those people’s body is beautiful in classical, they are single elegant and pure but among full of wants. However the bodies in modern are real with unreal, they show outlook, they are changed. People like to show complicated emotions in unreal things, so I want to add bodies on bodies because bodies are part of human behaviors, they are the consequences of the decision, bodies need a brain to manipulate, but without the head, it's free. “

The Things Between Us
90 x 90 x 1.7 cm
This painting is about the relationship between me and my boyfriend, I chose back to back, because I think we have different, but also close, it's kind of subtle, it's complicated, this is my real first relationship, and then I read a novel called the body artist, but it basically has nothing body description, lots of lots write about surroundings, I think the author wants to use the surrounding, then movements, to describe that person, so I try to add some surrounding to make it more expressive, but it's abstract because my emotion is a twining, it cannot use a physical thing to show it clearly, we also twine together.

Oil in canvas. 120 × 90 × 1.7 cm
"Out of Pictures series is composed by six oil paintings. After last year's lockdown period, I went back to oil painting with the concept of body without head that I started when I was a student in Glasgow School of Art. I was deeply touched by the idea of desire for body connection. At the beginning it was only physical, but subsequently books about humans, society and mind relationship inspired me to find out more about the mind and spirituality".

Adam and Eva is a concept I have always been interested to work with so I researched in different books to learn more about the story. I found inpiration on Durer's drawing, paintings from old masters, and also contemporary paintings".

Oil in canvas. 120 x 150 x 3.8 cm
I made this painting after I read the book Thoughts on Man, His Nature, Productions and Discoveries Chinese Edition by William Godwin. The following words were my main source of inspiration “At home, people can easily realize all ideas, and play with all the furniture andobjects in the room at will. At home, people can be free from all external disturbances, living in personal contracts, no noise, ears, and no annoying guests. He is in control. Everything, as long as you want, can make your home as quiet and peaceful as a tomb. Because of this, when people are confined to the flesh and bound to the changeable and arbitrary rules and precepts of the society, a feeling of leaving home rises.”
I imagined a body without organs, a body without head that is free and is moving.

I used two canvases to paint one figure and it has to be lying down as movies, Yellow-orange and blue-purple based.

"After I painted so many figures, I decided to paint completely abstract for the first time,
although I still paint in the same way as before. Because Abstract painting is completely free
for me. I gave up traditional modelling sketches and escaped from the limitations of painting
objects. I like the feeling that oil mixed with paint flows naturally downward along with
gravity, between colors mix colors. Those intersections and separation produced new colors.
The color has not been artificially adjusted. The pure lines and colors make me very relaxed.
I don't feel the burden when I do it. All the performance on the canvas is my imagination
from my mind. And these are coming more".

Girl's Love
Artist: Le Liu
Title of Artwork: Girl’s love
Year: 2022
Medium: Acrylic and oil on canvas.
Size: 101.6HX76.2WX1.7D cm
This is a series of human bodies works, which is an extension of Out Of Pictures last year. I used old masters painting as background, I added different human bodies in one picture. After I made the painting Men’s Club, I think I need to paint one with all females. So, I used The Three Graces by Rubens as a background painting, because it is all about women, Rubens shows her appreciation for women in that painting. I think it matches my painting theme. After I added so many female bodies in one painting, it feels like a girl's party, in the springtime, with the sunny and soft wind, in the picnic garden, the girls' garden, it is comfortable all of them having a great time at the moment, Which is what they love.

After I did 49 oil sketches and 1 pencil sketch, I started to paint on canvas, I developed my skills and ways, it is from my original way but not all, I think it gives me more potential and possibilities during painting.

Looking back
Le Liu
It was around December 2021 when I started to paint this painting, and to be honest I felt great and fresh at first, but after about a week, I wasn’t satisfised with it, so I changed it. This painting called looking back, because I started painting pure abstract paintings in September last year, and until February this year, I felt that I still needed to paint figures. Although painting pure abstract paintings made me feel very free, I could abandon the sense of freedom of all objects, but pure abstract paintings do not It's too easy to master, and requires a good aesthetic and mood, or it's like a runaway horse, so I'm going to paint it back with a character shape.
Oil on canvas.
All about yellow
Le Liu
The abstract paintings are my attempts and the further development of my art.
After I came to the UK, I came into contact with more types of art and the expression of
different ideologies. I chose to use lots of yellow, because, when I was in primary school, in
the art class, my teacher asked a question “do you know which colour is the most obvious?”
then he said it is yellow, he also pointed me to say, “See, that boy with a yellow outfit”, and
it is me. And that scenes is always in my mind.
1/60
Le Liu
This is a series of works, and this work is called 1/60. I have been drawing
sketches, all of which are sketches of the human body. When I paint oil paintings, I choose
the human body that I have feeling, and then it becomes abstract, When I finished painting I
counted how many drafts this painting was. This is the 60th, so I named it 1/60. This series
of works was inspired by Damien Hurst's recent cherry blossom series and Etel adnan Their works are abstract colour blocks with bright colours. When I first saw Damien Hurst's Cherry Blossom works, I was moved by his pure colours. So I also wanted to paint pure colours, which made me feel relieved. So I make physical figures into Spirit.

Men's Club
Le Liu
This is a series of human bodies, which is an extension of “out of pictures” last
year. Basically, the background of each painting is Monet's water lilies. I like to transfer
different human bodies to the same picture. I have seen many similar works before, For
example, the Impressionist artist Frédéric Bazille's Summer Scene, The Swimming Hole by Thomas Eakins. I chose water lilies as the background. First, when I first started learning to
paint, I liked Monet's works and imitated a lot. Second, because Water lilies are combined
with the human body, giving me a free fantasy. In summer, the weather is hot, a group of
naked men are playing by the pond. Under the sunlight, the skin is fair, red water lilies, and
green leaves. This painting is called men's club, also because of the modern family, in the
first season, cam and mitch made a toy house for lily, mitch was not good at "e;man"e; manual activities, so jay laughed at him. But cam said that mitch insisted on doing it because he still wanted to prove that he belonged to the men' a member of the s club.
