Glenn Badham
A Professional Artist for 25 years, Glenn is known for his vibrant heightened colour pallet paintings in oil. Atmospheric interiors, dancers, and more recently landscapes are subjects that dominate his works.
One of the most remarkable qualities of Glenn Badham’s work is its sincerity. His work maintains an admirable directness regarding feeling and intention.
By using a synthetic palette, Badham creates bright, bold visions of the world around him. He makes pen and ink sketches and mixed media drawings, which later evolve into oil paintings. His work celebrates the colour and wonder around us and how we --human beings-- interact and fit within the natural world.
Being a Ballroom dancer since childhood has been a significant influence on his work. Rhythm and repetition are his permanent attraction points, while he has a very distinctive way of capturing the human body and movement. His artistic practice, including rapid sketches developed to larger paintings, has allowed him to get inspired from and work in unique environments such as dance halls, theatre stages, ballrooms, or Jazz Clubs. The moving body in all these works has an astonishing vibration, achieved through skillful expressionistic games between light and shadow.
His artistic genealogy in approaching nature counts from 18th-century British landscape painting, up to now. His trees’ foliage are in a sensitive dialogue with John Constable’s naturalism and his rolling form of clouds own a glimpse of William Turner’s skies. At the same time, his colourful, picturesque syntheses keep a quality reminding of recent David Hockney’s multicoloured and playful contemplations on landscapes. Deeply inspired by British painting tradition, National Heritage and history, Badham desires to bring back a romantic view of wildlife and countryside. His artistic vision is focused on re-establishing a new relationship between man and nature, based on awe, wonder and respect, that are so indispensable today. In his imagery, the natural world becomes a magical place, full of possibilities, where multiple human interactions are studied and represented with curiosity and love.

Channel to Morte Rock -SOLD
Channel to Morte Rock, 2020
Oil on canvas
13 4/5 × 13 4/5 in
35 × 35 cm
A painting executed completely with a palette knife. The surface qualities of these rock strata accentuated by the impasto oil layers. The spot, a huge channel into the earth's crust that leads the eye out to Morte Rock, where the spine of rocks from atop of MorteHoe disappear just below the surface of the waters and present a treacherous and fatal zone for shipping. A much-used spot for wreckers in years gone by.
Shellsborough Rockpools
Artist: Glenn Lee Badham.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Year: 2020.
Size: 45 × 45 cm.
Condition: New, in an ebony stained Hardwood box frame.
Signature: Signed at the back of the painting.
Description: On the edge of the vast Woolacombe Bay Shellsborough is a cluster of rockpools and this viewpoint looking down from the elevated position removes all sense of scale. The rockpools that a man can wade in are reduced to mere bumps. The lack of scale reference in the paintings is deliberate so it is not clear what is huge or tiny. The textures of the foliage balances the flat planes of palette knife work at the top of the painting where the thin surf sits as tide recedes. The light sneaking round the headland just illuminates the tops of the rockpools adding to the huge range of textures.

Gin Cove towards Baggy Point
Artist: Glenn Lee Badham.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Year: 2020.
Size: 49 × 64 cm.
Condition: New, in an ebony stained Hardwood box frame.
Signature: Signed at the back of the painting.
Description: Gin Cove looking out across the Atlantic at early evening towards Baggy Point, a National Trust protected piece of coastline. Gin Cove, touching on the history of this point on the South West Coastal path. Smugglers and wreckers were commonplace once where now surfers and sunseekers play and the expansive bay that Gin Cove is a small part of, saw countless shipwrecks. It is the incredible shimmer of the setting sun across the rock strata that drew me to this view. The wonderful wandering lines of the layers of rock twisted by natures massive power, seem to move this time of day as the infinite planes fill with colour.
Modern Saint Cecilia
Artist: Glenn Lee Badham.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Year: 2020.
Size: 80 × 55 cm.
Condition: New, in an ebony-stained Hardwood box frame.
Signature: Signed at the back of the painting.
Provenance: All copyrights to the artist.
Description: A modern Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians. A concert cellist emasculated by the Covid Pandemic unable to play, looks down at the viewer. The folded arms, not in resignation but defiance and resilience, looking forward to the resumption of and inevitable explosion of performing arts. A lockdown painting to capture the zietgeist.
Lever Rock- SOLD
Artist: Glenn Lee Badham.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Year: 2019.
Size: 45 × 60 cm.
Condition: New, in an ebony stained Hardwood box frame.
Signature: Signed at the back of the painting.
Description: This massive chunk of rock once connected to the cliff face above and Lever Cliffs but erosion now sees Lever Rock isolated in the intriguing mass of rock formations, rock-pools and 20th century concrete walkway that is Combe Martin. The colours in this bay are fantastic! So many hues in the rocks themselves and the huge open sky and sea bounce light around giving wonderful effects.
Green and Pleasant Land-SOLD
Glenn Lee Badham
Green and Pleasant Land, 2021
Oil on board
45 3/10 × 25 3/5 in
115 × 65 cm
A local high point, Sibberoft, at the far end of the WW2 airfield with the descent to Hothorpe hill and the Welland Valley below. A vista at first glimpse appearing idyllic but all managed by man, for farming, husbandry and for transport. There exists a tension between our idea of the countryside and what the countryside really is, illustrated in this painting by the shadows descending across the picture.
Scratches in the Soil
Glenn Lee Badham
Scratches in the Soil, 2021
Oil on canvas
13 4/5 × 13 4/5 in
35 × 35 cm
A simple low lit Spring day celebrating the abundance of textures and colour. The tyre ruts torn across the soil and filled with rainwater seem harsh thanks for the abundance the soil here has granted us for a millennia. Our relationship with the earth is crucial and I see it more every day in my home setting.
Combe Martin, Rockpooling
Glenn Lee Badham
Combe Martin, Rockpooling, 2021
Oil on canvas
29 9/10 × 20 1/10 in
76 × 51 cm
A heavily worked surface reflects the textures of the North Devon rockpools. These wonderful manmade rockpools are extra deepas the concrete walkway that extends around Lester Cliffs traps pools deep enough to swim in. A wonderful haven for crab hunting and finding fish trapped until the next tide. There are however no rockpools so the suggestion is it is us that is rock pooling not simply observing, a passtime as I child I was fascinated by and during lockdown, the unavailability of this and other priceless, escapist adventures became more apparent.
Interface-SOLD

55 × 40 cm
A stunning lit copse of trees, the edge or fringe of the manicured and manmade and a glimpse into the wildness of the woods. Beautiful low Spring light illuminating the trees and filling the wood floor with a void of darkness. That darkness that myths and tales have been born of for eternity.

Towards Lester Cliffs, 2020
Oil on canvas

The view across Combe Martin Bay towards the Lester Cliffs. A phenomenal visual phenomenon as one appreciates the forces that have tipped, ripped and tilted massive pillars of rock, then to erode them to leave the broken but incredible skyline we see today.

Original oil on canvas, 122cms x 50cms in a hardwood Box rebate frame.
This felled row of 30 Poplars made quite an impact. My first outing after lockdown presented this scene of transition which had looked like a Monet skyline now a sea of tinder wood. A visual spectacle too good not to capture
